Virudhunagar District

Virudhunagar District was formed in 1987 by trifurcating the erstwhile Ramanathapuram District. Located in the southern part of Tamil Nadu, the district shares its boundaries with Madurai and Sivagangai districts to the north, Theni District to the northwest, Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi districts to the south, Ramanathapuram District to the east, and the state of Kerala to the west.
The town of Virudhunagar serves as the administrative headquarters of the district. Over the years, the district has emerged as a major industrial hub, especially known for the match and fireworks industries in Sivakasi. In addition, ginning factories, spinning mills, power loom and handloom units in Rajapalayam, along with offset printing presses, significantly contribute to the district’s economy.
