Dindigul District is located in the southern region of the state of Tamil Nadu. The district was formed in 1985 by carving out from Madurai District. The district is bounded by Tiruppur, Karur and Trichy district to the north, Madurai District to the south, Trichy Districts in the east and by Theni, Coimbatore and state of Kerala to the west.
The city of Dindigul is the administrative headquarters of the district. The major industries in Dindigul include iron locks and iron safe makers, leather tanneries, textile spinning, and agricultural trading. The district has some very good tourist locations.
