Pudukottai District is one of the most glorious districts found in the state of Tamil Nadu holding a rich cultural heritage with palaces, temples, cave temples, and splendid historical monuments.

Pudukottai District was formed on 14th January 1974, comprising of the former Pudukottai Division of Tiruchirapalli District with some additions from Thanjavur District. The district is bounded by Thanjavur District on the east and northeast, Tiruchirappalli District on the west and northwest and by Ramanathapuram and Sivagangai districts on the southwest. The villages of the district are predominantly of ancient origin and find a place in Tamil Sangam Literature. The city of Pudukottai is the district headquarters.
